Maruti Suzuki is set to begin export of its select models to markets in Asia. The company is viewing various potential Asian markets and plans to export vehicles as completely knocked down (CKD) kits. The first vehicle to be exported will be the new multi-passenger vehicle Ertiga which will is expected to be launched at the Delhi Auto Expo in January 2012.
Maruti Suzuki India MD Mr. S Nakanish commented, “There is a great potential to export vehicles as CKD in many markets in Asia.” He added that the company will become the biggest supplier of cars to its parent company Suzuki, starting with the Ertiga MPV.
The Ertiga is a seven seater MPV which will be launched in January 2012 and will be powered by a 1.4 liter petrol engine and a 1.3 diesel engine alternately. The export shipments, sealed and packaged at the companyβs Manesar plant will be dispatched first to Indonesia and successively to Thailand.
