According to rumours in the industry, the highly anticipated new Maruti Swift may hit the market on August 17, 2011. Although, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd has not specified a date yet and a print advertisement released by the company says “coming soon”, the hatchback is rumoured to be released near mid-August. The advertisement provides sneak peeks of the car and says that the car can be booked on a first-come-first-served basis. The new car will feature new dimensions and specifications to make it lighter and more spacious in addition to having higher fuel efficiency.
The company has reportedly invested around Rs. 6,000 crore to expand its production capacity and enhance R&D activities. The launch of a new model by the company is being seen by many as an attempt to establish a stronghold in the small car segment which has recently been flooded by numerous car launches by various global carmakers. An MUV and an upgraded DZire are also being planned to be rolled out by the company.
