General Motors India, the Indian subsidiary of the American automobile major General Motors (GM) has witnessed a 12.75 percent increase in its March auto sales with 10,588 units in comparison to 9,391 units sold in March 2011. Mr. P Balendran GM India Vice President attributed the increase in sales to the increase in demand for the company’s hatchback Beat and the Tavera multi-purpose vehicle (MPV).

He added that the demand for the diesel variant of the Beat hatchback was a major contributor to the company’s monthly sales. The company sold 5,638 units of the Beat hatchback including both petrol and diesel variants. The Tavera MPV was the second major contributor to the sales figures with 2,075 units sold in March 2012 followed by the Chevrolet Spark which sold 1,879 units.

The rest of the sales were comprised of the Aveo sedan, the Optra sedan, the luxury sedan Cruze and the Captiva sports utility vehicles (SUV).
