    German students set a new 0-100 km/h world record

    Students from the University of Stuttgart have just recorded a new best time in the 0-100 km/h acceleration. The Green Team Formula Student participants managed to sprint from a standstill to 100 km/h in just 1.779 seconds, thus beating the previous record by 0.006 seconds. They managed to achieve this with a 135bhp all-wheel drive fully electric vehicle designed for the Formula Student competitions.

    The tiny one-seater machine features four electric motors and a 6.62-kWh battery package. The total weight stands at 160 kg and the power to weight ratio is 1.6 kg/kW. Just for comparison, the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport has a power to weight ratio of 2.08 kg/kW, while the Porsche 918 Spyder has 2.5 kg/kW. The record is still unofficial as the team is waiting for it to be confirmed by Guinness World Records in the coming weeks.
