Nissan Motor India posted a growth of 185.6 percent in its domestic car sales in the month of August 2012 selling 3,953 units in comparison to 1,384 units sold in the same month in 2011. The major contributors to the sales figures were the entry level sedan Nissan Sunny and the compact hatchback Micra with 3,944 units sold collectively. The rest of the sales were comprised by the luxury sedan Teana, the lifestyle SUV X-trail and the sports car 370Z.

According to Mr. Takayuki Ishida Managing Director Nissan Motor India, the company plans on increasing production localization across its product portfolio and introduce more locally produced car models in India. The automaker is currently in process of launching the Evalia utility vehicle in the month of September 2012. The new car model will be manufactured at its Chennai facility.

Nissan India is also focusing on expanding its dealership network in India and has opened new outlets at Mumbai, Chandigarh, Ludhiana and Noida in the month of August 2012.

The company is pinning its hopes on the upcoming festival season to revive economic activity in the Indian auto industry.
