Indian automaker Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) has announced its plans to increase the production of the XUV500 SUV in order to meet the excess demand for the newly launched car model. The company states that it aims to increase production of the SUV to 5,000 units monthly by the month of September or October 2012.

In the month of May 2012, the company managed to touch the production figure of 4,000 units per month but is still struggling to meet the demand after it opened the bookings for the SUV across the country in June 2012.

The company has opened bookings for the XUV500 for in three phases with the first phase limited to the five metropolitan cities Delhi, Bangalore, Pune, Chennai and Mumbai and the second phase was implemented across 19 cities.
