Hyundai Motor India, the Indian arm of the South Korean auto manufacturer Hyundai witnessed an increase of 22.9 percent in its domestic sales in the month of March 2012. The company sold 39,122 units in the domestic market in March 2012 in comparison to 31,822 units sold in March 2011. In terms of total sales volume in March 2012, the company sold 59,229 units against 55,552 units in the same period in 2011, an increment of 6.62 percent.

The growth in the company’s total sales was driven by the small car segment with car models the Hyundai Eon, the i10, the i20 and the Santro contributing sales figures of 51,336 units. The second major contribution was made by the large cars such as the Accent and the Verna Fluidic which sold 7679 units.

While the company’s domestic sales grew by 22.9 percent, its exports saw a decline of 15.27 percent selling 20,107 units in March 2012 in comparison to 23,730 units in March 2011.

Hyundai India is among the many automakers in India who have experienced a boost in cars sales in the month of March 2012 as a result of the anticipation of an increase in the excise duty on automobiles, especially on diesel cars in India as part of the Union Budget 2012-13.
