Nitol Group, the distributer for Tata Motors in Bangladesh is planning to negotiate with Tata Motors for an assembly plant for the small car Nano which will be launched in Bangladesh in February 2012. As of now, the Nitol Group will be importing and selling the Nano in the country.
Mr. Abdul Matlub Ahmed, Chairman of Nitol Group states that the company will import about 2,000 cars in the first year of the launch and will proceed further according to the customer response and market demand. The group targets selling 10,000 cars in Bangladesh by 2014.
The Nitol Group plans an assembly unit for Bangladesh due to the high import duty resulting the Nano to be priced at Tk 6,50,000 (Rs 3,80,000). A local assembly unit in the country will be more cost effective states the company. However, it will entail a lot of study and fresh investment, says Mr. Ahmed.
