BMW and Toyota to partner on green technology for cars

    carsBy carsDecember 1, 2011Updated:July 11, 2026No Comments1 Min Read

Japanese auto manufacturer Toyota and Germany’s carmaker BMW have agreed to combine their energies for environment friendly in green cars. Joint research will be conducted by the two companies to develop next generation batteries for these cars.

Apart from the research and development collaboration, BMW has also agreed to supply 1.6 liter and 2 liter engines to Toyota starting from the year 2014 for its models in the European market. Other medium and long term projects in collaboration are also being discussed. Toyota plans to base its expansion plans for the European market on the agreement with BMW, which will focus on selling more fuel efficient diesel cars.

Two other carmakers, Germany’s Volkswagen and Japan’s Suzuki, have tried their luck at partnership and cooperation. However, the venture has proved to be unprofitable and unsuccessful and currently, Suzuki is trying to end the cooperation.
