While the car sales in India have been on a steep decline, exports from India on the other hand have risen by 22.39 percent in April-August period for this fiscal 2011-12 in comparison to the same period in 2010-11.
As per the data from Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), passenger car exports for the April-August period in 2011-12 stood at 2,17,409 units in comparison to 1,77,634 units for the same period in 2010-11. The growth in exports is attributed primarily to the good volumes clocked in by the new player Nissan. Ford India too managed to boost its overseas shipment by over three-folds.
Nissan Motor India, whose hatchback Micra is sold primarily in Europe, exported 42,540 units during this period. Nissan Motor India had not started exporting its car in the same period last year. Ford India exported 10,118 units of Ford Figo during the April-August 2011-12 compared to its sales of 3,168 units in 2010-11 for the same period.
