Toyota intends to increase its production capacity at its Bidadi plant in Karnataka (India). The company wants to boost its production capacity as it is anticipating its sales volumes to double in 2011 with the launch of the new products in the Indian market.

Sailesh Shetty, Vice-President, Toyota Kirloskar Motor, quoted, “The company, which sold about 74,000 units in 2010, is expecting to sell more than 1,40,000 units during 2011. The growth in number will be largely driven by volumes from the Etios sedan and Liva hatch.” According to Mr. R.K. Ramesh, General Manager, Marketing, Toyota Kirloskar, the company after the launch of its Etios, has procured around 21% of the market share in the country’s petrol sedan market.

Addressing a press conference during the launch of Etios Liva in Hyderabad, Mr. Shetty stated that the company is targeting to acquire 5% of the market share in India’s automobile industry. Mr. Shetty also added that the company plans to increase its localization to 70-80% in the country which would positively impact the company’s plans of achieving its target. Based on the market trend, the company is also contemplating to introduce the diesel option for its Etios range of sedan.
