Auto company Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) is planning to launch as many as ten new models in both the passenger car and the utility vehicle segments in the coming two years. Many of these new models will be built using common vehicle platforms – a practice which is being followed by several international car companies. A vehicle platform is the basic structure on which a car is built, determining its body size and strength. The Mahindra Xylo, for instance, has been built on the Scorpio’s vehicle platform. The same platform is expected to be used for many of M&M’s future cars as well. Among the new models to be launched soon are the truck, the LTV, and the W201.
