ŠKODA has announced record worldwide sales of 454,700 vehicles in the first half of 2011, representing an increase of 20.1% when compared with the same period of 2010. The Czech manufacturer also recorded its best ever June sales with 81,300 vehicles sold (71,300 in June 2010) and a new sales record for the fourth consecutive month.

“In the first half of the year, ŠKODA has performed well in all areas of the business and in all regions,” explained Jürgen Stackmann, the Škoda board member for sales and marketing. “In the first six months, we have succeeded in implementing our growth strategy, which began last year, in impressive style and we are seeing some strong results. We are growing rapidly and have created an outstanding basis for further growth. Škoda will introduce a number of new models over the coming years, helping markets to grow significantly.”

In the Czech market, sales remained positive for Škoda with 5,400 vehicles delivered in June 2011.

Škoda also achieved impressive growth in other markets of Central and Eastern Europe in June. In Ukraine, sales increased 64.8%, Poland rose 9.1%, and Slovenia 52%.

In the UK, Škoda is on course to record its most successful year ever with more than 24,000 vehicles delivered to customers in the first half of 2011. In June alone, registrations increased by almost 20% when compared with the same month in 2010.

In rest Western Europe, Škoda saw double-digit growth. With an increase of 11.1%, the brand was able to expand its market share and record sales of 35,100 cars in June. Deliveries developed particularly well in Belgium, with an increase of 48.2%, and in the Netherlands, with an increase of 38.8%. In Denmark, sales rose 15.8% and in Switzerland 13.2%.

The development of the brand in emerging markets remains strong. In China, Škoda achieved a new half year sales record in the first six months of 2011 with 112,200 sold vehicles. In June alone, deliveries in China rose 25.8% to 19,100 units. The Superb in particular was in hot demand as sales increased 42.7%. In Russia, ŠKODA achieved the best monthly sales result ever with an increase of 33.6% and more than 7,000 sold vehicles.
