The all-new Hyundai i40 has been awarded the maximum five-star safety rating by independent vehicle assessment organisation, Euro NCAP. The results of the rigorous test process mark out the i40 as one of the safest vehicles in the D-segment.
The i40 is the fifth consecutive Hyundai model to achieve the maximum five-star score in Euro NCAP’s rigorous assessment program, following on from the top ratings achieved by the i20 supermini, ix20 compact MPV, i30 hatchback and ix35 compact SUV.
The D-segment i40 received a rating of 92% in the ‘adult occupant’ category, registering maximum points in the side barrier test. Furthermore, the head restraint and seat were praised for providing good protection against whiplash injuries in the event of a rear-end collision.
In the ‘child occupant’ category, the i40 attained an impressive score of 86%, performing well in both the ’18-month-old’ and ‘3-year-old’ child categories. The i40 registered 43% in the ‘pedestrian’ category, with the front bumper scoring maximum points for the good protection offered to pedestrians’ legs.
Electronic stability program, speed limitation assistance and a seatbelt reminder system contributed to the car’s score of 86% in the ‘safety assist’ category. The passive and active safety systems offered with i40 exceed Euro NCAP’s 2011 requirements.
