Widely recognised as creating the finest vehicles in their class, Mercedes-Benz has once again been voted as top of the safety category in the What Van? Awards.

Steve Bridge, Van Sales and Marketing Director for Mercedes-Benz UK, said: “As a manufacturer, we have always been the pioneer in setting new standards in terms of driver and pedestrian protection and we are delighted to have won the 2012 What Van? Award for Safety for the second year running.

“Mercedes-Benz has led the way in safety innovations, including creating the airbag in 1980 and launching ESP in 1995, making it standard across our vehicles in 1999. Our vans have however, always gone one stage further and are now using Adaptive ESP which automatically measures the current load condition to react with just the right amount of force to suit the driving situation. This works in conjunction with ABS, disc brakes all round, acceleration skid control, electronic brake force distribution and Brake Assist to ensure that Mercedes-Benz produce vans with safety always as standard.”

In addition, driver’s airbags and three-point seat belts with tensioners and force limiters are standard too, with adaptive brake lights, a bulkhead and large electric exterior mirrors all included in the price of a Mercedes-Benz van.

Paul Barker, Editor of What Van?, added: “Safety is a vital component of any commercial vehicle operator‘s priorities, and Mercedes-Benz is still leading the field in this area. The company’s focus on taking care of the people that drive its commercial vehicles is industry leading, and the What Van? judging panel were unanimous in awarding the Safety Award to Mercedes-Benz.”
