Ford India is expected to showcase its 2012 Ford EcoSport at the Auto Expo in January 2012. The Ford EcoSport, based on the company’s Fiesta platform, is a premium sports utility vehicle (SUV). The company plans to manufacture the vehicle at its plant at Perungudi near Chennai and export it to the Australian market.
According to sources, the new SUV will sport a 1.5-litre turbo diesel engine in the company’s portfolio and will be offered as a two wheel drive. With a length of less than 4 meters, the SUV will qualify as a small car and will enable the company to reduce the excise duty incurred. Moreover, the EcoSport will also feature the Ford’s Kinetic Design language that has been implemented in many of the company’s current models and is based on the theme ‘energy in motion’.
