    Toyota considers hybrid Etios for Indian market

    Japanese automobile manufacturer Toyota is considering launching a hybrid option for the Etios compact sedan in the Indian auto market and may set up production units for the same in India. The carmaker is in the process of running a feasibility study regarding the same.

    The automaker may also consider adding the Camry premium sedan to its Hybrid portfolio in India in addition to the Prius hybrid. For emerging markets such as India, the price sensitivity of the car buyers will have to be studies and specific solutions may have to be developed accordingly.

    According to Mr. Kouji Toyoshima Chief Engineer Toyota Motor Corporation, the primary concern while considering a hybrid Etios version would be to reduce the cost of the compact sedan and enhance its efficiency levels in order to make it an affordable option for Indian car buyers.
