Ford India, the Indian arm of the American auto major Ford is planning to launch the EcoSport compact SUV in the month of March 2013. The launch date for the launch or the price of the new car model has not been revealed as the carmaker is waiting for the Budget 2013-14 to settle upon a suitable price as well as the launch date.
The pricing of the new car will be a critical decision for the carmaker in light of the current competition in the compact SUV space with rivals such as the Renault Duster. The automaker is waiting for the Union Budget 2013-14 to set the right price for the car model depending on the benefits offered by the Budget or the shocks of policy changes by the government.
Another issue at hand for the American carmaker is that competitive pricing for the EcoSport may affect the sales of other Ford car models such as the Fiesta Classic and the top end variants of the Figo hatchback.
The petrol versions of the EcoSport can be expected to start at Rs 5,99,000 (ex-showroom, Delhi), while the diesel version may have an entry level price of Rs 6,99,000 (ex-showroom, Delhi).
