Ford India is engaged in the process of setting up its new automobile manufacturing facility at Sanand in Gujarat and expects to commence production operations by early 2014. Mr. Michael Boneham President and MD Ford India stated the construction work at the 400 acres facility is on schedule.
Commenting on Ford’s plans for the Indian car market, Mr. Boneham stated that the American auto manufacturer is focusing on the B and the C segments in India. The carmaker also plans to launch the SUV EcoSport in early 2013 in the Indian auto market. It has also launched a revamped version of the hatchback Figo on along with 140 changes including engine updates and improved mileage on October 15, 2012.
The SUV EcoSport, which is slated for a launch in February 2013 in the Indian auto market, will be manufactured at the company’s existing Maraimalainagar facility near Chennai. The new Ecosport will belong in the sub 4 meter category and would enjoy the tax benefits associated with the smaller length of car.
