After Maruti recall announcement of 1,50,000 units for Swift DZire the Toyota Kirloskar Motor also announced to recall its MPV Innova about 64 lakh units globally and 45k units in India to fix the defective airbag in vehicles, which were manufactured in-between February 2005 and December, 2008.
The Toyota is recalling 44,989 units of India’s favorite family mover made between February 2005 and December 2008. The affected MPVs have faulty spiral cables in their steering wheel. “This will lead to continuous illumination of an airbag warning lamp on the instrument cluster giving prior indication of a problem to the customer. In addition, the driver’s airbag may get deactivated”, TKM said.
Company said that currently working on obtaining the necessary replacement parts. Once these replacement parts are available, then the dealer will contact to the customers and the vehicle will be repaired free of cost. The repair time will estimated to take an hour’s time.
Toyota equipped driver and passenger airbag available in top-end variant of Innova at the period between 2005 and 2008. Now though, a driver side airbag is offered standard on all variants of the new Innova, while driver and passenger airbags come from the mid grade. On the pre-facelift Innova E and G grades, an airbag is not offered.
